Breakaway South Ossetian Official Comments on Tbilisi’s Proposals

Deputy Foreign Minister of breakaway South Ossetia Alan Pliev said, while commenting on Tbilisi’s proposals over the region’s status, voiced by President Saakashvili on January 26, that the South Ossetian side will not discuss the issue of status.

“We do not understand for whom Saakashvili made these proposals. No proposals were received so far in the South Ossetian Republic… We have always been declaring that the South Ossetian Republic does not refuse to hold dialogue and is ready to solve the political issues, issues related with peace and trust… but we do not intend to discuss the issue of the South Ossetian Republic’s status. People of South Ossetia has already determined its status [as an independent state] and it is reflected in our Constitution,” Alan Pliev said in a note issued by the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee on January 27.
