MPs Approve Georgia’s Further Contribution to EU’s Mission in Central African Republic

Parliament approved on May 28 sending of five Georgian officers to the Central African Republic (CAR) and a logistics officer to Mali to be part of EU advisory and training missions in those countries.

Georgia was also contributing to EU’s previous military mission in the Central African Republic, which has been transformed into EU’s Military Advisory Mission (EUMAM RCA) from March. Based in capital Bangui, EUMAM RCA consists of up to 60 staff.

156 Georgian troops served in CAR in a period between June and December, 2014 and 85 Georgian soldiers were deployed in the country in December, 2014-March, 2015.

Georgia and the EU signed a framework agreement on Georgia’s participation in EU’s crisis management operations in November, 2013.
