US Plans on Georgia May Daly Russian Military Bases’ Withdrawal

(Tbilisi, March 29, Civil Georgia) – Aggravation of situation in Abkhazia and possible US military deployment in Georgia may influence dates of Russian pull out from the military bases in Georgia, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov stated on March 28.

Georgia demands withdrawal of Russia troops from Batumi [Adjarian Autonomous Republic] and Akhalkalaki [southern Georgia] military bases within 3 years, while Russians claim that 14 years are necessary for the pull out.

Ivanov said that USA has not made a definite decision concerning sending troops to Georgia. He expressed hope that US plan on Georgia now will be adjusted.
