Shevardnadze’s Loyalists Say US Should not Interfere in Georgia’s Internal Affairs
(Tbilisi, August 7, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Up to 50 representatives of the intellectual groups, which are loyal to President Shevardnadze, on the initiative of Deputy Culture Minister Rezo Amashukeli sent a message to US ambassador in Georgia urging to refrain interference in country’s internal affairs.
The letter comes in the wake of President Shevardnadze’s criticism towards the US administration and US embassy in Tbilisi, for claiming that the US company AES pul!
led out from Georgia because of “difficult investment climate” in Georgia.
The leaders of the opposition parties expressed concern regarding this message claiming that this is one more sign of change of the country’s foreign policy course in Russia’s favor.
