The New Draft-Law Will be For 500 State Officials Only

The draft-law on “Transmitting (Returning) Illegal and Groundless Property to the State” is not directed against entrepreneurs, Vano Merabishvili, head of the Committee of Economic Policy in the Parliament, announced at press conference on August 9.

“Similar law exists in the USA and Hong-Kong. It’s a pity but entrepreneurs do not have money in Georgia. Unfortunately, those who did not pass the draft-law at the last government session were the ones who take capital away from them”, he said.

“Only 500 state official, those who have managed to own the country’s property, will be taken into consideration by the new drafr-law. Thus it may not be true that it will cause conflict in the society”, he announced.

The draft-law on “Transmitting (Returning) Illegal and Groundless Property to the State” was presented at the last government session by Justice Minister Mikheil Saakashvili.

Saakashvili blamed three state officials in corruption. “We will name other concrete corrupted officials in the court”, Merabishvili pointed out. It is possible that the draft-law will be additionally adjusted at the Parliamentary debates. According to the adjustments, the relatives of state officials will be also considered in the draft-law, he said.
