Zhvania Claims Readiness to Resign, Doubts Opposition Unity

Speaker of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania is ready to resign from his post if his opponents in the Parliament will collect 100 signatures.

Such announcement was made by Head of the Secretariat of the Speaker of the Parliament Petre Tsiskarishvili. The Secretariat already registered this statement with proper organs of the Parliament.

“The procedure for impeaching the Parliamentary Chairman is legally too complex and requires 147 MPs to vote” Zhvania told Civil Georgia “as demands for my resignation were voiced I decided to simplify the procedure for my opponents.”

Collecting of the signatures with demand of Zhvania’s resignation would probably be launched today. Howevar, Parliament’s Chairman remains assured that rift within the opposition would not allow them to succeed.
