Unlike Other Government Members, President Favoured Budget Project for 2002

President Shevardnadze favoured expenditure figures of the budget project for the year 2002, presented by the Ministry of Finances. As of Finance Minister’s statement, expenditures in the next year’s budget are expected to be 958 million 668 thousand Laris, which is 40 millions higher then the previous version of the budget.

Almost all ministers are dissaisfied with the project. “Power” ministers are criticizing it more then others. Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade Vano Chkhartishvili stated that such budget would support corruption. However, Shevardnadze’s opinion is that the current version is most optimal in present situation.

The budget is to be discussed at the Parliament in October.
