The Parliamentary “Confidence Group” and the Power Ministers Discuss Security Issues

The “Confdence Group” – a board of three MPs entrusted to discuss high-profile security issues – of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security meets the ministers of defense, security and internal affairs today. A possibility of Russian military involvement in Pankisi and Kodiri gorges is discussed. Moscow permanently acuses Georgia in harboring Chechen terrorists in Pankisi gorge. Tbilisi officials deny the accusation.

At the Parliamentary bureau held on September 24 opposition factions demanded a special Parliamentary session to discuss Russian threats. The parliamentary majority rejected the proposal and agreed on the “Confidence Group” meeting with the power ministers.
