Shevardnadze Sings an Agreement on Gas Tariffs with Azerbaijan

President Shevardnadze visits Azerbaijan today. He will sign an agreement concerning the transit fees Tbilisi will receive from Baku for allowing Azerbaijani natural gas to flow through Georgia to Turkey.

Georgia will receive both money and natural gas through transit fees. Tariffs come to the international standards and Georgian interests as well, Foreign Affairs Minister Irakli Menagarishvili stated. He did not clarify the exact amount of tariff.

Signing the agreement was postponed for several times because of disagreement between Georgia and Azerbaijan regarding tariffs.

The transit of the Azerbaijani gas to Turkey is to start in 2004.
