IMF and World Bank Called President Shevardnadze to Eradicate Corruption

Representatives of the IMF and World Bank stressed the necessity to defeat corruption in Georgia during the meeting with President Shevardnadze in Washington yesterday. “We are currently working with more than one hundred countries around the world, helping them improve governance and fight corruption”, World Bank President James D. Wolfensohn stated.

James D. Wolfensohn pledged the institution’s continuing assistance to Georgia in its efforts to implement economic reforms, but noted that in determining further Bank support, much will depend on tangible results in implementing its reform program, results that will create the basis for sustainable economic development in the country.
