Georgia Initiates New War – Abkhazian Authorities Say
Abkhazian de facto government evaluated deploying of Georgian military forces in Kodori gorge (territory in Abkhazia controlled by Tbilisi) as initiation of war by Georgian government, Russian news service Interfax reports, quoting Sukhumi authorities. Today Defense Minister of Georgia Davit Tevzadze announced deployment of additional forces in Kodori to protect Georgian population there.
Meanwhile, armed clashes continue near Gulripshi region of Abkhazia between Georgian-Chechen guerrillas and Abkhazian fighters, Sukhumi officials report. It is claimed that Abkhazian army captured several Chechen and Georgian guerrillas. There are casualties among the Abkhazian fighters.
