Parliament Voted for CIS Peacekeepers Withdrawal From Abkhazia 08:45 12.10
Parliament supported proposal regarding withdrawal of CIS peacekeeping forces from Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, late in the evening yesterday. 157 MPs were for the proposal and only two – against. MPs demand replacement of CIS peacekeepers, which consist of Russian soldiers with the UN of OCSE observers.
The decision was anticipated, because President Shevardnadze stated today, that Russian peacekeepers are not able to safeguard peace and security in the conflict zone and he is for their replacement.
