Saakashvili Plans to Modify the Government
The Alia
While writing about the Georgina Parliament the Alia points out that power division will be entirely changed after the independent MP elections held in Tbilisi Vake district and Baghdati (region in the western Georgia). Even though both elected candidates, Mikheil Saakashvili and Vazha Lortkipanidze, are members of the Citizens’ Union they represent two different powers.
“Mikheil Saakashvili may remain an independent MP in the Parliament but he may try to coordinate different factions concerning some issues”, the paper says. It presumes that Saakashvili will have much more ambition than just establishing a faction. According to the paper, Saakashvili intends to modify the government completely.
Just a faction will not be enough for Vazha Lortkipanidze either. “He may become a leader of a certain coalition”, the paper considers. It supposes that factions “claiming to be supporting Shevardnadze”, for example the New Right Wings, the Socialists, and the Intellectuals, will be united in the coalition. This power will not be able to balance Saakashvili’s political temperament, the Alia says.
Judging for the article it is obvious that the paper’s attitude towards Lortkipanidze is negative. The paper talks about the past when some years ago “Lortkipanidze calmly violated the constitution and held the positions of an MP and Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia simultaneously”.
