Russian Soldiers Ready to Leave Gudauta Base in Abkhazia?
Russian forces loaded onto railway platforms the military equipment of Gudauta Russian military base in Abkhazia and wait for the order to withdraw, de facto government of breakaway unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia announced today.
Officials in Tbilisi are unable to confirm or deny the report.
At a summit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Istanbul in 1999 Russia obliged to withdraw military base from Gudauta before the July 1, 2001. Russia has not fulfilled the agreement so far.
Abkhazian authorities are against of Russian military forces’ withdrawal from Gudauta.
