Negotiations on Framework Agreement with Russia to Start

(Tbilisi. December 10. Civil Georgia) – Russian delegation visits Georgia next week to initiate talks on the new framework agreement between Georgia and Russia.

Chairman of the Duma Council Committee on CIS Affairs Boris Pastukhov heads the Russian delegation. He will meet with Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili.

The negotiations were to start on November 16 but were delayed on request of the Russian side, as appointment of Georgia’s Foreign Affairs Minister was still pending.

Framework agreement on friendship, peaceful relationship and cooperation was first signed by the Presidents of Georgia and Russia on November 3, 1994 but it never entered into legal force as the Russian Duma Council repeatedly failed to ratify the document.
