USA Highly Values Relations with Georgia – Rumsfeld Says

(Tbilisi. December 16. Civil Georgia) – “My visit to Georgia is that the United States values highly the relationships with this country,” US Secretary of Defense Ronald Rumsfeld stated after the meeting with Georgian President Shevardnadze on December 15.

Bilateral military cooperation and antiterrorist operation were the main issues of negotiations between the sides.

“United States is providing to us a vital assistance in building Georgia’s armed forces, as well as creating modern border guard forces. This is a long term cooperation,” President Shevardnadze stated.

US Secretary of Defense met his Georgian counterpart Davit Tevzadze, Foreign Affairs Minister Irakli Menagarishvili and Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze yesterday.
