Ex-Economy Minister Intends to Appeal Supreme Court

(Tbilisi. December 20. Civil Georgia) – Former Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade Vano Chkhartishvili, disappointed with the Tbilisi district court decision intends to appeal the Supreme Court.

On December 18, district court acquitted Head of the National Library Levan Berdzenishvili. Chkhartishvili sued Berdzenishvili for libel and demanded million Lari (approximately $500,000) in moral damages. Levan Berdzenishvili called former Economy Minister Vano Chkhartishvili one of the most corrupted high official.       

Vano Chkhartishvili stated on December 19 that he intends to sue each person who publicly accused him in corruption.

On August 8 by-then Justice Minister, MP Mikheil Saakashvili also accused Vano Chkhartishvili in corruption at the government meeting. It is unknown yet whether ex-Economy Minister intends or not to sue Saakashvili as well.
