Russia Should Ratify Framework Agreement First – Shevardnadze Stated

(Tbilisi. December 23. Civil Georgia) – “Georgia will ratify the framework agreement between Russia and Georgia only after Russian Duma Council will,” President Shevardnadze stated on December 22.

Eduard Shevardnadze announced that Russia refused to ratify the previous agreement signed in 1994 and it was a mistake.

Georgian President is optimistic concerning the negotiations started on December 21 in Tbilisi between Russian and Georgian delegations.

Presidents of Georgia and the Russian Federation signed a framework agreement about friendship, peaceful relationship and cooperation on November 3, 1994. Georgian Parliament ratified the document but Russian Duma Council failed to reciprocate.
