President Slams Influential Governor
(Tbilisi. December 26. Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze criticized influential governor of Kvemo Kartli region Levan Mamaladze and accused him of populism at the government session today.
Mamaladze demanded to increase salaries of the teachers. President responded to this demand, that Mamaladze aims at self-promotion only. Eduard Shevardnadze advised Mamaladze to quit making populist statements.
President’s criticism came as a surprise since Levan Mamaladze was always considered among Shevardnadze loyalists. .
