Local Self Government Representatives Join Protest in Pankisi

(Tbilisi, January 12, Civil Georgia) – Chairman of the Akhmeta Sakrebulo (council elected by the citizens) leads the protest meeting in Akhmeta, eastern Georgian, demanding from law enforcers to eradicate criminals’ activity in Pankisi gorge, where two people are detained by the kidnappers at the moment.

Approximately 50 members of the Union of Combatants of Afghan War, fighting in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan war, are also protesting demanding release of abducted persons.

Valeri Khaburdzania, State Security Minister of Georgia announced on January 11, that the protesters’ demand is reasonable and law enforcers should implement it.
