(Tbilisi, January 15, Civil Georgia) – Georgian law enforcers initiate special measures in Pankisi gorge starting from January 15. “Relocation of the checkpoints from the entry to Pankisi gorge deeper on its territory is the first action of the operation,” joint statement of the State Security and Internal Affairs Ministries says.
Statement was issued after the meeting between President Shevardnadze and Security and Internal Affairs Ministers late on January 14.
The next step should be elimination of illegal drug and arms dealings in the criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge.
“Special actions will continue till the criminals’ complete crackdown,” joint statement says.
