No Significant Progress in Operation in Pankisi
(Tbilisi, January 18, Civil Georgia) – Press service of Georgian Internal Affairs Ministry reported on January 18, that only one criminal arrested in Pankisi gorge. He surrendered to police today and has no common with the abduction cases. Several persons voluntarily submitted arms to the police on January 18.
Special operations in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge started on January 14 and no significant progress has been achieved so far to crackdown criminals harboring in the gorge.
Local population of Akhmeta region, where Pankisi gorge is located continues protest demanding from the law enforcement agencies to eradicate criminals activity.
Two abducted persons still remain detained in Pankisi by the criminals.
