Parliament Approves 2002 Draft Budget

(Tbilisi, January 19, Civil Georgia) – The Parliament approved draft of the 2002 budget late on January 18 with the first reading on the condition that that the government will submit for confirmation a new version of the budget with increased parameters in four months’ time.

MPs criticized proposed draft demanding increase of revenues at least by 140 million Lari (approximately $64 million). Government agreed to increase revenues only by 25 million Lari.

Government members urged that it would be impossible to fulfill budget in case the revenues are increased.

The revenue part of the adopted 2002 budget totals 1,039,869,000 (approximately $480 million) Lari, while its expenditure part totals 1,259,527,000 Lari (approximately $580 million).
