Protesters Threaten to Put Mines at Peacekeepers Checkpoints

(Tbilisi, January 21, Civil Georgia) – Georgian guerrillas and internal displaced persons say that they will mine roads at Russian peacekeepers checkpoints in case the representatives of Georgian government and Russian peacekeepers will not fulfill their demands.

Protesters at the Enguri bridge, linking breakaway Abkhazia with the rest of the Georgia, demand relocation of Russian peacekeepers, deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), deeper into the Abkhazian territory at Galidzga river.

President Shevardnadze agreed with the protesters and stated on January 21, that their demands are fair.
