Protests Widen Demanding Peacekeepers Withdrawal

(Tbilisi, January 22, Civil Georgia) – Internally displaced persons from Abkhazia start a meeting in front of the State Chancellery, in Georgian capital Tbilisi, late on January 21, demanding Russian peacekeepers withdrawal from the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone.

Georgian guerrillas together with the IDPs protest at the Enguri bridge, linking breakaway Abkhazia with the rest of the Georgia with the same demand.

Georgian President Shevardnadze agreed with the protesters and stated on January 21, that their demands are fair.
