Russian Peacekeepers Blocked

(Tbilisi, January 22, Civil Georgia) – Members of Georgian guerrilla groups, protesting at Enguri bridge, say they mined all the roads to the Russian Peacekeepers checkpoints.

Displaced persons from Abkhazia and Georgian guerrillas demand Russia peacekeeping troops, deployed in the Georgina-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the CIS, withdrawal.

They blocked bridge over Enguri river, linking breakaway region of Abkhazia with the rest of the Georgia.

IDPs from Abkhazia hold a meeting in front of the State Chancellery in Tbilisi with the same demand at the moment.

Georgian State Security Minister stated on January 21 that it is impossible to solve the peacekeepers’ problem in couple of days as the protesters demand.
