Akhmeta Residents Demand Firmer Measures in Pankisi
(Tbilisi, January 28, Civil Georgia) – A protest meeting of about 4 000 people is being held in Akhmeta (town by the Pankisi gorge, eastern Georgia) demanding that firmer measures be passed to crack down on criminals, independent Georgian TV company Rustavi 2 reports.
The local residents are dissatisfied by the special operation Georgian law enforcement agencies are conducting in the region. They say the operation has yielded no evident results by now.
Special operation in Pankisi started on January 15 and aims at cleansing the region form the criminals.
