Akhmeta Residents Demand Chechen Refugees Repatriation

(Tbilisi, January 29, Civil Georgia) – Local population of Akhmeta region, where Pankisi gorge is located, initiated collection of signatures with the demand to repatriate refugees from Chechnya.

Chairman of Russian National Security Council Vladimir Rushailo visiting Georgia on January 29-30, is to discuss issue of Chechen refugees with Georgian President Shevardnadze.

Former Parliamentary Chairman Zurab Zhvania stated in the interview to the broadcasting company Rustavi 2 on January 28 that Georgian government made a mistake when let the refugees from Chechnya arrive in Georgia without any obstacles.

Russia constantly accuses Georgia in harboring Chechen fighters in Pankisi gorge since the refugees are living in the gorge.
