Chechen Rebels are Funded via South Caucasus – Russian Prosecutor General Says
(Tbilisi, January 29, Civil Georgia) – Rebels in Chechnya received approximately $650,000 via Georgia and Turkey and also 20 million via Azerbaijan, Russian Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov stated on January 29.
Ustinov made a report concerning the sources of funding of Chechen fighters at the meeting of the representatives of law enforcement agencies of Commonwealth of Independent States, Interfax reports.
Georgian Internal Affairs Minister Koba Narchemashvili planned to participate in the meeting but because of the deteriorated situation in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge, eastern Georgia he decided to arrive in Akhmeta region where Pankisi is located.
