Georgian Defense Minister and UN Observer Visited Kodori Gorge

(Tbilisi, February 9, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze and UN mission’s chief military observer Anis Ahmed Bajwa visited Kodori gorge, the only territory in breakaway Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government, on February 8.

UNOMIG chief military observer stated that the joint visit showed that Georgia is ready to follow its commitment in the line of protocol signed on January 17.

According to the protocol Georgia is to withdraw its military units from Kodori gorge. Georgian Defense Ministry says some 350 soldiers are in the gorge at the moment. Abkhazian side clams there are twice more soldiers of Georgian army in Kodori.
