Two Foreigners Suspected in Terrorism Arrested
(Tbilisi, February 9, Civil Georgia) – Georgian State Security Ministry arrested citizens of Saudi Arabia and Jordan who intended to form illegal armed units in Pankisi gorge, northeastern Georgia.
“The armed groups’ main goal was to carry out terrorist acts in Russia,” Georgian State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania stated at the expended government’s meeting on February 9.
The Minister said that last year the Georgian special services prevented a group of 10 people from Turkey, who intended to go to Chechnya, via Georgia.
According to the State Security Minister’s information those people were trained in Turkey at an illegal base.
Georgian authorities admitted recently that persons fighting against the Russian Federal forces are among the Chechen refugees living in criminal-ridden Pankisi gorge.
