Law on Local Self-Governance Elections – Priority for the Parliament

(Tbilisi, February 11, Civil Georgia) – Adoption of new law on local self-governance elections will be the prime goal of the Parliament during the spring sessions of the Parliament, Chairperson of the Parliament Nino Burjanadze stated at the news briefing on February 11.

She announced that the postponement of the local self-government elections will be intolerable.

The part of the MPs, especially members of the Citizens’ Union of Georgia faction demand local elections to be held in summer 2002.

The Parliamentary Chairperson believes that the amendments in the election and tax codes are also important for the Parliament.

February 12 is the first day of the Parliamentary sprig session.
