Joint Georgian-Abkhazian Military Observation of Kodori Postponed

(Tbilisi, February 20, Civil Georgia) – Military observation of upper Kodori gorge which was to start on February 20 is postponed for an unknown term. 

Representatives of Georgian and Abkhazian sides are to hold military observation of upper Kodori, the only territory in breakaway region of Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.

On February 20 at the meeting in Gali district of Abkhazia the sides will consult on the details of the observation process.

Unrecognized government of Abkhazia demands from Georgia to withdraw its military units from Kodori gorge.

Georgian authorities say that Defense Ministry’s military units will be replaced with other special units to defend local Georgian population of the gorge.
