Georgian Envoy Says Antiterrorist Operation in Pankisi Might Be Necessary
(Tbilisi, February 22, Civil Georgia) – Georgian ambassador to Russia Zurab Abashidze stated in the interview to the radio station Ekho Moskvi that in case the police fails to crackdown on criminals in Pankisi gorge, then the special antiterrorist operation might be necessary.
“But at the moment joint Russian-Georgian military operation in Pankisi is not on the agenda,” Abashidze stated.
“Situation in Pankisi is difficult, there are Chechen refugees, criminals and some rebels also might be there,” Georgian ambassador stated.
