Georgia Optimistic Concerning Border Dispute with Russia

(Tbilisi, February 22, Civil Georgia) – Head of Georgian commission on Georgian-Russian border delimitation issues Zaza Kandelaki stated on February 22, that negotiations with Russian side on border delimitation held in a constructive atmosphere.

Negotiations were held in Moscow on February 17-21. Main disputable issue between the two countries concerning the 852 kilometers-long borders is the village of Pichvebi, in northeastern mountainous part of Georgia.

Kandeliki stated on February 22, that Georgian sided handed over all the documentation proving that the village of Pichvebi is Georgian territory.

Russian soldiers entered the village in 1999 without notification of Georgian side.
