Colin Powell Says no US Troops in Georgia

(Tbilisi, February 28, Civil Georgia) – US Secretary of State Colin L. Powell assured Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov that the United States will take into consideration Russia’s concern regarding the US assistance to Georgia.

Colin Powell and Igor Ivanov and Russian Foreign Minister held a phone conversation concerning the situation in Pankisi gorge on February 27, Russia Foreign Affairs Ministry reports on February 28.

The Minister Ivanov stated that US military involvement in Pankisi gorge would further aggravate situation in the region.  

US Secretary of State confirmed Russian Foreign Minister that no troops are sent to Georgia.
