Shevardnadze Meets Russian President

(Tbilisi, March 1, Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Shevardnadze meets his Russian counterpart Vladimer Putin in Kazakhstan at the CIS summit.

Georgian Foreign Affairs Minister Irakli Menagarishvili states that together with the situation in Pankisi gorge, Russian peacekeepers’ issue deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazia conflict zone will be discussed.

After the summit Russian President stated that “there is no tragedy that the United States assists Georgia to combat international terrorism.”

President Shevardnadze announced that “there is nothing strange that the USA assists Georgian armed forces. No other country can provide Georgia such assistance.”
