Russian Security Service to Check Repatriated Chechen Refugees
(Tbilisi, March 4, Civil Georgia) – Russian Federal Security service will carefully check all the refugees returned to their homes from Pankisi gorge, Federal Security official in Chechnya Aleksandr Patapov told the Russian media sources on March 4.
Russian authorities fear that fighters may infiltrate territory of Chechnya together with the refugees.
The part of the refugees is against of return in Chechnya at the moment. They believe that after the repatriation Russian officials will send them to the filtration camps.
Russian President Vladimer Putin stated during the meeting with his Georgian counterpart on March 1 that Russia will hasten measures aiming to Chechen refugees’ return.
More than 7,000 Chechen refugees live in Pankisi gorge at the moment.
