President Praises Georgian-Russian Draft Framework Agreement

(Tbilisi, March 11, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze stated in the interview to the state radio company on March 11, that the draft framework agreement between Georgia and Russia completely corresponds to the Georgian interests and the relations of the two friendly countries.

On March 10 Georgian President discussed the draft with the Foreign Minister, Parliamentary Chairperson and other Georgian top officials .

Presidents of Georgia and the Russian Federation signed a framework agreement about friendship, peaceful relationship and cooperation on November 3, 1994. Georgian Parliament ratified the document but the Russian Duma Council failed to reciprocate.

The first talks on the new framework agreement took place in Tbilisi on December 21, 2001.

The talks between Georgian and Russian sides on the framework agreement will resume in April.
