President Bush Says 150 US Military Trainers to Prepare Georgian Soldiers

(Tbilisi, March 12, Civil Georgia) – “In the Republic of Georgia, terrorists working closely with al Qaeda operate in the Pankisi Gorge near the Russian border. At President Shevardnadze’s request, the United States is planning to send up to 150 military trainers to prepare Georgian soldiers to reestablish control in this lawless region,” US President George W. Bush stated on March 11.

In his remarks on the six-month anniversary of the September 11th attacks the US president thanked world coalition for anti-terrorism efforts.

George W. Bush stated concerning the Georgian that US temporary assistance to this former Soviet Republic “serves the interests of both our countries”.

“We will not send American troops to every battle, but America will actively prepare other nations for the battles ahead,” President Bush said

Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze stated on Mach 11 that the first part of the US military trainers is to arrive in Georgia from March 15 to Mach 25.

They will train four battalions of Georgian Defense Ministry to carry out anti-terrorist operations.
