US President, Russian Minister Discussed Situation in Georgia
(Tbilisi, March 13, Civil Georgia) – The US president assured Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov that “no action is possible there without taking Russia into consideration,” Russian media sources report quoting Minister Ivanov said.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov stated that the situation in Georgia was discussed together with other issues during the meeting with the US President George W. Bush on March 12, “in the view of the presence of terrorists and bandits in that area [Pankisi gorge]”.
President Bush stated on March 11, “at President Shevardnadze’s request, the United States is planning to send up to 150 military trainers to prepare Georgian soldiers to reestablish control in this lawless region.”
