Situation Improving in Pankisi – Interior Ministry Reports

(Tbilisi, March 15, Civil Georgia) – Situation is gradually improving in Pankisi gorge and criminals are leaving the area, Georgian Interior Ministry’s Spokesman Paata Gomelauri stated at the news briefing on March 15.

Gomelauri stated that criminals started to leave the gorge after the US declared about its intention to train Georgian troops to carry out anti-terrorist operations in Pankisi gorge.

On March 15 law enforcers released one abducted person in the gorge. Kidnappers are not arrested. According to the Interior Ministry only one abducted citizen, monk Basil Machitadze remains detained in the gorge at the moment.
