Armenian Minority Against Russian Military Base Withdrawal
(Tbilisi, March 18, Civil Georgia) – During the meeting with the Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze, local population of Akhalkalaki, town in Samtskhe-Javakheti region stated that they are against the Russian military base withdrawal from Akhalkalaki.
Nino Burjanadze visited region on March 16-17.
In the town which is populated with large number of ethnic Armenians, 15% of Akhalkalaki residents are employed at the Russian base.
Georgia demands the base withdrawal within the 3 years. Russian side claims that the 14 years are needed to pull out the base.
