Kidnapped Peacekeepers Released

(Tbilisi, March 20, Civil Georgia) – Four Russian peacekeepers abducted in Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia were released late on March 19.

Russian side claims that three officers and one soldier of Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone were kidnapped by the Georgian guerrillas on March 18.

Peacekeepers were swapped for two Georgians detained by the peacekeepers last week during the clash.

Georgian Internal Affairs Ministry does not reveal who kidnapped the peacekeepers.

Leader of the Georgian guerrilla organization Forest Brothers Davit Shengelia denied that members of his organization were involved in the incident.
