Instructors from 10th Mountain Division of US Army to Arrive in Georgia
(Tbilisi, March 20, Civil Georgia) – The US military instructors, who will train Georgian troops are from the 10th Mountain Division, “which has played a key role in the war in Afghanistan,” The Guardian reports on March 20.
“The division is becoming accustomed to sprawling bases built by the Soviet Union, having been deployed at Bagram outside Kabul, the airports at Kandahar and Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan, the Khanabad base in Uzbekistan and now the Vasiani base outside Tbilisi.”
The Guardian reports that the 10th Division has already participated in the battles against Al-Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan.
Up to 150 US instructors are to arrive in Georgia in the nearest days. They will train approximately 2,000 Georgian soldiers in anti-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
