Shevardnadze Against Prolongation of His Presidential Term
(Tbilisi, March 22, Civil Georgia) – At the meeting of the Union of Tax Payers of Georgia on March 22 President of Coca-Cola Bottles Georgia company Temur Chkhonia proposed to prolong the Presidential term of Eduard Shevardnadze for two years.
President Shevardnadze thanked the influential businessman for the proposal, but stated that he is against of the idea. Eduard Shevardnadze’s Presidential term expires in 2005
“In the remaining three years one of my main goals is to find acceptable successor for the Presidential post,” Eduard Shevardnadze stated.
Georgian Constitution does not consider prolongation of Presidential term. Only the Parliament can make amendments in the Constitution.
