Majority of Parliamentary Factions Agreed on Local Self-Governance Elections

(Tbilisi, March 25, Civil Georgia) – The Parliamentary factions discussed the issue of local self-governance elections on March 24.

MPs drafted memorandum according to which elections should be held not later then June, 2002.

Revival bloc was the only parliamentary group that refused to sign the memorandum.

According to the document local councils as well as city mayors and the provincial governors should be elected and not appointed by the President as it is now.

The Parliament is to discuss new draft law on the local self-governance election this week.
