Shevardnadze Hopes CUG will not Be in Opposition

(Tbilisi, March 25, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze hopes that Citizens Union of Georgia [CUG] party meeting will be against of going into opposition.

Reformers’ faction of the CUG, led by former Parliamentary Chairman Zurab Zhvania, tries to take over the party and transform in into the opposition.

“Only one part of the CUG members cannot decide whether to go into opposition or not, the party meeting should decide issues like this,” Eduard Shevardnadze stated at the briefing on March 25.

Since the President left the CUG chairmanship post Zhvania led reformers faction and pro-presidential influential governor of Kvemo Kartli region Levan Mamaladze try to take over the party.
