Russian Foreign Minister Talks on Pankisi Problem at the PACE

(Tbilisi, March 26, Civil Georgia) – “Pankisi gorge, Georgia, is one of the sources of terrorism in Chechnya,” Russian Foreign Minster Igor Ivanov stated at the meeting of the permanent commission of Parliamentary Assambly of Council of Europe in St. Petersburg on March 26.

Ivanov expressed satisfaction that Georgian government admitted presence of terrorists in its lawless gorge and intends to carry out all the necessary measures to eradicate terrorism. 

“Russia, as previously, offers Georgia assistance in this [combating terrorism] respect,” Ivanov said.

Russia wants to carry out joint military operation with Georgia in Pankisi gorge. Georgian government rejects the proposal.
