Russia Denies Raid on Georgian Village

(Tbilisi, March 26, Civil Georgia) – Russian Foreign Ministry denied Georgian reports on CIS peacekeepers’ raid on Anaklia village in Zugdidi district, near the administrative border of breakaway Abkhazia.

According to the local residents of Anaklia village Russian peacekeepers entered the village late on March 25 and opened fire. One villager was wounded.

Russian Defense Ministry official told Interfax news agency that peacekeepers did not entered the village.

Russian peacekeepers are deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of Commonwealth of Independent States since mid-1994.
